Happy Halloween

Alden in his fly fisherman outfit ready for his special Halloween day at school. All of his friends wore their costumes to school all day. After lunch, they had a special treat of cookies and pretzels to celebrate Halloween. Alden was very tired and, later we found out, getting sick. He was pretty much screaming, "Mama!" and crying the whole time. This is the happiest he got the whole party. I snapped a photo right after I put a piece of the whole wheat flax seed cookie in his mouth. (I tried them and they were really way too good to be healthy)
The kids partied for all of about 15 minutes. We were actually in the car and ready to go early that day. Alden fell asleep before we ever even left the parking lot. When he woke up from his nap, he threw up twice! I thought we had until the fraternity years for partying to make him throw up! Glad it was only a 15 minute party; who knows what would have happened if he had partied longer.
Being sick on Halloween can be no fun. Instead of Trick or Treating, Alden dressed up and greeted our neighbors at the door. He has been cooped up too long, though, because no matter what we did, Alden would not stay still even for one photo.
Alden had fun climbing the stairs, playing with pumpkins, and running around on the front porch. I think maybe he wanted us to open the back gate so he could fish in the koi pond!
Our first Trick or Treater was a beautiful little ladybug. Alden couldn't wait to get up from his sweet potato dinner to see her when she came to the door.

About this time of night, Alden was starting to fade big-time. He is looking pretty pitiful. He sure does take after his parents when it comes to staying up for the party doesn't he?
The lady bug and the fisherman.

We spent the rest of the night playing in our pajamas....from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00, that is, for Alden. We liked Granna's Halloween surprise, a flashlight that Alden calls a "firefly." We also practiced all of our other newest words. We poked Mom and Dad in the eye repeatedly to say "eye." We stuck our fingers up Mom and Dad's nose to say "nose." And we especially loved climbing on "box" that the mailman had delivered earlier that day. Who says that you can't have fun staying in on Halloween! The best part is, you get all of the left-over candy.
